You asked me about any ideas for preheating, Since I will be using waste motor oil and diesel fuel or biodiesel, this won't be necessary. If you are running straight filtered WVO, the easiest and most foolproof is to run two fuel tanks, one with diesel to start and warm it up with and another for the WVO. Then all you need to do is run 10 to 15 turns of copper tubing around the exhaust as it comes out of the engine. Then switch back to diesel for a while before you shut it down.
